Christmas on Mars

Mary Jo Rabe

Can one still dream of a white Christmas if the celebration is to happen on Mars?

Poetry
Science Fiction

We celebrate Christmas
Twice a Martian year
To preserve a bond with a
Planet of origin
That is no longer our home.

We meet in the
Little Red Church of the Valles,
A natural red-rock structure
That formed long before
The first Christmas on Earth.

Holding space-suited hands
We give thanks
For the wonders of the universe
We have discovered
And those we cannot yet imagine
